I am unemployed and my benefits have ended. I have no income, no job, i live in a very rural area and internet providers are few and very expensive. I am 22 miles from town and can't afford gas to utilize internet options available. I have to have the internet to access jobs, send resumes etc. Is there any help for people who need internet access but can't afford it?

HI Terrie. There is in fact help out there for people just like yourself. I don't know just how rural an area you live in, but a relatively new program called Connect2Compete is designed for folks who can't afford a smart phone or computer or internet access. It is for low income people and families. Eligibility is often determined by whether you have a child in a free lunch program at school, if you are receiving SNAP or TANF benefits, or if you live in one of 14,000 zip codes where the average income is $35,000 or less. Sounds like that might be the case!  There are also programs aimed at getting smart phones and voice/data plans for those same people. Please take a look at this article to learn more about it and how to see if it's available in your area.
